I knew I had to run for School Board because of a board meeting that made everything clear. I attended a parent association meeting where the Superintendent dismissed the teachers' request for increased salary as unreasonable and claimed the union wouldn't negotiate. I was appalled. I went to the following board meeting with my kids and had to wait until 9pm for our turn to speak up for our teachers and the salary increase they deserve. Our teachers deserve to be heard, not shut down. After that meeting, I was asked to step up and run. I'm running because our educators deserve to be heard, valued, and supported. I'm running because we need someone at the table who actually listens and understands what our families and educators are living through.
Not all schools in Oak Grove School District are getting a fair deal. Some schools have seen renovations and updated resources while others are making do with old equipment and outdated materials. I will fight to ensure every school gets a fair share of resources, because every student deserves the same quality learning environment regardless of which school they attend.
The school district budget is complicated, but that's not an excuse to keep the community in the dark. Oak Grove has struggled to share the details of how money is spent, leaving many families feeling like funds are wasted or mishandled. I will work to make funding clear and accessible to the public, and ensure the community has a real voice in budget decisions, especially when cuts to student-facing services like support staff are on the table.
I truly believe that strong schools are the foundation of a supportive community. When our school district thrives, our entire neighborhood grows closer and stronger. That is why I am so passionate about community engagement. If elected, I will work to ensure our school district does more than just educate our kids—it should serve as a vital hub for everyone. Our schools should actively connect community members to the resources they need to thrive individually, while bringing us all together to work for the common good. By uniting our efforts and supporting one another, we can build a better, brighter future for every single person in our community.
